Walid, a 40-year-old Palestinian living in Haifa with his wife and two children, cultivates his depression and his literary inclinations. He befriends his new neighbour Jalal, a small-time crook. The two men soon become inseparable. Jalal is persuaded to help the writer by showing him his tricks and Walid sees an opportunity to achieve a secret project.

Maha Haj (1970) was born in Nazareth. She graduated from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in English and Arabic literature. After writing and directing the short film Oranges (2009) and the documentary Behind These Walls (2010), she shot her first feature film, Personal Affairs, which was screened at the Cannes Film Festival in the "Un certain regard" selection and received international critical acclaim.

The screening will be followed by a Q&A (in English) with director Maha Haj, moderated by Nael Khleifi (film director).
