Screening & online conversation with the director and Rosa Spaliviero
For the last 20 years, victims of the Six-Day War in Kisangani, in the Democratic Republic of Congo, have been fighting for recognition of the conflict, condemning of the belligerents, and financial compensation. Disgusted by the indifference of those in power, they decide to undertake a perilous journey across the River Congo to Kinshasa, the country’s capital, to make their voices heard.
Dieudo Hamadi was born in Kisangani in 1984. He began studying medicine before training in documentary making and editing, notably at the FEMIS. His films rapidly attracted the attention of international festivals, and in 2015, Hamadi created Kiripifilms, his own production company. In 2019, he received the McMillan-Steward Fellowship from the Film Study Center of Harvard University. From one film to the next, Hamadi questions the contemporary history and institutions of his country, the Democratic Republic of Congo. He is working on his first feature film.
