Can you live in peace if you know nothing about your lineage? What is madness if not the land of suffering that has nowhere to go? Following the success of Mahmoud ou la montée des eaux (winner of the Wepler Prize and the Prix du Livre Inter) and Musée des contradictions (winner of the Goncourt Prize for short stories), Antoine Wauters is back with a novel that is both cruel and luminous: Haute-Folie.

This new book by the Belgian author tells the story of Josef, a man whose family has been struck by a series of tragedies that have never been revealed to him. Consumed by the need to understand what he is missing, he leaves his village, embarks on a wandering life through forests and mountains, and returns to the Haute-Folie farm, where it all began, to confront the demons of the past. A novel of striking language and imagination, which is also an ode to happy sobriety, in the spirit of Walden or Life in the Woods, Thoreau's cult book.
