At a literary evening, fifty years after Franco's death, three contemporary Spanish writers reflect on a Europe that feels as fragmented as their own stories. Between memory and fiction, autobiography and fantasy, they discuss how a society retells its traumas without obscuring them. Their stories are fueled not only by politics and history, but also by technology, postmodernism and imagination. What role does artificial intelligence play in their work, and how do they view digital Europe, where identities—and democracies—are increasingly fragmented into algorithmic realities?
Vicente Luis Mora, writer, literary critic, and professor, crafts a body of work marked by formal experimentation and sharp theoretical insight into contemporary identity. From the acclaimed novel Centroeuropa to the genre-bending Circular 22, along with poetry, essays, and aphorisms, he explores the borders between forms and the shifting capacities of language. His work develops a poetics of hybridity attuned to technological and cultural transformation, earning recognition such as the Málaga Novel Prize and the PEN Translates Award.
Miguel Ángel Hernández, art historian and novelist, writes with precision and depth about memory, trauma, and the visual world. From El dolor de los demás to Anoxia, his fiction often draws from real life, balancing personal narrative with political and philosophical reflection.
Laura Fernández, cultural journalist and author of Mrs. Potter Is Not Exactly Santa Claus, crafts dazzling universes where the fantastic meets the mundane. Her sharp humor and deep human insight have made her a favorite among readers and critics alike.
