The Minguet Quartett takes pleasure in exploring the diversity and actuality of the string quartet repertoire. Founded in 1988, the ensemble was named after Pablo Minguet, an 18th century Spanish philosopher who campaigned to make the arts accessible to all sections of the population, an idea that is central to the ensemble’s approach. Opposed to conventional classifications, the quartet has enthusiastically embarked on collaborations with the Huelgas Ensemble, the baritones Christian Gerhaher and Thomas E. Bauer, the actor Michael Degen and the hr-Sinfonieorchester. Equally enthusiastic about the music of the 18th and the 21st centuries, the Minguet Quartett has recorded the complete quartets of Wolfgang Rihm, Peter Ruzicka and Jörg Widmann. For this concert, they combine two ‘classics’ – Beethoven’s Compliments Quartet and Dvořák’s American – with the expressive microtonal polyphony of Sofia Gubaidulina’s First String Quartet.
