Choreographer, dancer, poet and painter Mónica Valenciano is a Spanish National Dance Prize winner. Her career intersects with that of other renowned Spanish artists such as Ana Buitrago, Olga Mesa, La Ribot, Blanca Calvo… Since founding her company, El Bailadero, in 1997, her work has been presented at national and international festivals, on stage, and in contemporary museums and galleries. Beside her performative work, she has published several books of poetry and drawings, and she teaches performance theory and practice, making her a key figure in today’s experimental and activist art scene.
ENSAYOS PARA NADA Y AVE (ESSAYS FOR NOTHING AND A BIRD) is her first appearance at Bozar and is a coproduction between Bozar and TEA – Tenerife Espacio de las Artes.
In the framework of the ‘PIT – Perform, Inform, Transform: Participatory Performance in Art Museums’ project, co-funded by the European Union
It is a setting into play, unfolding through 22 cards — or images to be revealed in situ.
To un-fold the voice of the hidden body within the body that dances, in search of that polyphony that, rather than explaining, involves ways of inhabiting the very happening itself — within – behind – beneath – between – with what is there.
Blinks of a shared presence and song; among the movement of images, multiple planes and unexpected relations will be shuffled, un-covering passages where situations emerge to explore the fabric capable of holding a spark = an event.
· To let that call be seen, in which something presents itself?
· To generate the potentiality of happening as a mode of emergence?
· How to bring forth the possibility of that space–time?
· Or … .. . … .
“The event hides itself folded in the passage between one movement and another; thus every instant is potentially a door that opens…”
