‘Mythique Rumba Congolaise Internationale (MRCI) presents the Cavacha generation’

29 Jan.'22

In 1971, when travelling by train with the Congolese group Zaïko Langa Langa, legendary drummer Merry Djo had the idea of reproducing the rolling sound of the train on his snare drum. The Cavacha style, and its characteristic swaying rhythm, was born. From Kassav’ to Maître Gims, via Magic System, many are the artists who have succumbed to the supercharged energy of cavacha. As part of Europalia, an orchestra of 18 musicians, drawn from the mythical bands that made the style famous in the 1970s and 1980s, retrace the path of this syncopated rhythm that still makes Africa, and the whole world, dance today.
