CONTEXT: 19:00 Introduction and encounter with Andrey Boreyko & Giya Kancheli.

The Latvian-born Israeli musician Mischa Maisky is one of the great stars of the cello. He is just as well-known for his solo performances in the great repertoire (Bach, Haydn, Schumann) as he is for his chamber music performances (with amongst others Gidon Kremer and Martha Argerich). Today he excels in Richard Strauss’ Don Quixote, a series of ‘fantastic variations’ based around the main character from the novel of the same name by Miguel de Cervantes. The concert begins with the world première of a new work by Gia Kancheli, a Georgian composer who has lived in Belgium for a while now. We conclude with Manuel De Falla’s concert suite El amor brujo, from his ballet about the love pangs of a young gypsy.
