‘'NOIRE N’EST PAS MON METIER'’

The woman behind the book project Noire n’est pas mon métier (Black isn’t my job), published by Éditions du Seuil in 2018, is the actress Aïssa Maïga, seen in numerous films including Je vais bien, ne t’en fais pas, Prête-moi ta main and L’Écume des jours. Maïga invited fifteen other French black actresses to talk about their experiences. Invisibility, stereotypical roles, differences in salary in comparison with their white counterparts, … All of these themes can be found in their texts, which denounce a film industry in which discrimination is so visible. “This book is like setting a cat amongst the pigeons, but we are also reaching out to our peers, casting directors, directors, scriptwriters, financiers”, explains Aïssa Maïga.

The sixteen actresses have created the #Diaspora collective in order to carry on sharing their message and their struggle, but also to enable others to join them. Mata Gabin, Maïmouna Gueye, Sabine Pakora, Rachel Khan and Magaajya Silberfeld are present at the Afropolitan Festival to talk about this book and their shared project.
