Meet the writer

Salman Rushdie has called him “one of the best contemporary African writers.” Not surprisingly, the legendary Somali author Nuruddin Farah has been nominated for the Nobel Prize. Farah acquired global fame in the eighties with his trilogy on the dictatorship in Somalia. His native country, which he fled in 1974, women’s rights and Islamisation are recurring themes in his work.  Although he managed to return to Somalia in 1996, he has lived in dozens of other countries over the years and has currently made his home in Cape Town. Farah was awarded the distinguished Neustadt Prize, the American version of the Nobel Prize, in 1998. His most recent novel, Hiding in Plain Sight, was published in 2014. BOZAR has invited the author to talk about his life and work with the journalist Catherine Vuylsteke on 10 May.

The selling of the English version of the books is organized by Waterstones.
