This open-air programme brings together four short films from William Kentridge's early animation practice, from the student work Discourse on a Chair, a premature example of his satirical approach to authority and power, to films from the renowned Drawings for Projection series. Through the recurring figures of Soho Eckstein, a wealthy Johannesburg industrialist, and Felix Teitelbaum, his introspective counterpart, Kentridge explores the complexities of South African society during a period of political and social transformation.
Programme:
- Discourse on a Chair, 1974 - 1'
- Monument, 1990 - 3'
- Sobriety, Obesity & Growing Old, 1991 - 8'
- Stereoscope, 1999 - 9'
