‘The Open Eye – Robbrecht Desmet’

Staged by scenographer Jozef Wouters in 2019 in a former cardboard factory in Brussels, Underneath Which Rivers Flow was political theatre created with non-professional performers from all over the world. Filmmaker Robbrecht Desmet captured the creation process of this theatre piece with his camera. Months after the premiere, he set to work with the material, shaping it into a film about being a spectator, institutionalism and the desire to make art. 

Robbrecht Desmet (°1985) lives in Brussels. He studied cinema and fine arts at Sint-Lukas Brussels. His work has been shown at film festivals such as BFI London Film Festival and the International Film Festival Rotterdam. He teaches Film Studies at the film department of the LUCA School of Arts in Brussels. He is currently finishing a PhD in the arts, The World is Really There
