We have learned to expect extraordinarily ambitious projects from Philippe Herreweghe. This performance of Dvoøák's Stabat Mater, with its impressive orchestral and vocal forces, is a good example. Written as a response to the successive deaths of his three children, the Stabat Mater is one of the composer's most powerful and most personal works.
