Ostende - Laura Citarella

Thanks to winning a radio contest, a young woman spends four days alone at a seaside hotel in Ostende, in the Buenos Aires province, while waiting for her boyfriend to arrive. With little to do beyond enjoying the windy beach and observing the sparse surroundings, she becomes fascinated by an elderly man and his two young companions. As she drifts away from her everyday world, curiosity draws her into a mysterious microcosm filled with untold stories. When her boyfriend finally arrives, he disrupts this fragile atmosphere. In her debut film, Laura Citarella blends Hitchcockian intrigue and Rohmer-like subtlety with a feminine, lighthearted touch.

Laura Citarella (1981, La Plata) graduated as a film director from the Universidad del Cine in Buenos Aires. Since 2005, she has been part of El Pampero Cine. With her third feature, La mujer de los perros (2015), co-directed with Verónica Llinás (sister of Mariano Llinás), she gained worldwide recognition at film festivals. Her fourth and most recent feature film Trenque Lauquen (2022) was an international success. Besides directing Citarella is also one of the biggest independent movie producers in Argentina. Her production work includes, among others, Mariano Llinás’s Extraordinary Stories and La Flor, and Alejo Moguillansky’s For the Money.
