The Pop-up bar, the beating heart of BANG!

Missed your train? Looking for a friendly place to spend some time relaxing? We’ll be ready for you every Tuesday and Thursday from 4pm throughout the duration of the festival. This is the perfect place to unwind after a busy day. Read or swap a book, grab a healthy and affordable bite to eat with friends, enjoy one or two, or three (…) local Brussels brews or pamper yourself with one of the free treats on our pop-up calendar!

Joris’ Dinner

Joris serves a nice meal at the pop-up. All dishes are prepared using only fresh vegetarian - organic ingredients. Cheap and healthy!

Mama’s Uitscheldbox

The pop-up aims to be a second home to all Brussels students. Grow thick skin for the weekend ahead at Mama’s Rant Box – pimped with stunning illustrations by Eva Mouton .

Visitors can get a friendly torrent of abuse from their fictitious mum: Saskia:

“What do you think this is? A hotel?”

“You can act all cool and tough at university. At home, I call the shots”

“What!? Eleven in the morning and you’re still in bed!? …

Book exchange

Especially for the festival, Sans Souci library built a book exchange case. The idea is simple enough: take one out, leave one behind!  After the festival, the swap case will be transferred to the VUB’s Infopunt Studenten.  If this has not sated your thirst for reading, pop round to the Sans Souci library for the real thing … (books in Dutch and English).

Rinus Van de Velde:

For BANG! Belgian artist Rinus Van de Velde (1982) created an imposing charcoal drawing on one of the bar walls in his typical style. The wall drawing will be up for all to see throughout the six-week festival duration and will disappear for good once the festival has ended!

Pop-up =  meeting point / start of all activities

Before any of the performances, concerts, readings, lectures, etc. get under way, we first meet up at the pop-up bar. Do you have tickets to any of the events on Saskia’s calendar? If so, be sure to call round to our pop-up first. You’ll get a very warm welcome and we’ll shepherd you to your destination in the labyrinth that is Bozar.

Tuesday, 29 September Hairdresser’s / barber’s – 7pm – 11pm

Always hard on the (student) wallet, those expensive hair stylists. Get a free cut and blow-dry at our pop-up instead!

Thursday, 1 October Fortune teller – 7pm - 11pm

What life has in store for you in two shakes.

Tuesday, 6 October SOS JORIS – 6pm - 8pm

Up against a cookery problem? Our resident chef Joris is ready to help you out with tips and tricks that will work their magic on your cuisine! Call round to see him and share your cooking troubles.

Thursday,8 October Wicked Electric Strings -7pm- 11pm

Bozar Electronics! Think you could be the next Jean-Michel Jarre? Musician Dijf Sanders will give you a helping hand. Build your own ‘electric strings’ at this workshop and take home a good sounding instrument three hours later. Want to join in? Simply drop us an email at cultuur@vub.ac.be and Bob’s your uncle.

This bar is part of the imaginative city festival BANG! Curated by Saskia De Coster. Due to the construction work currently being undertaken, KultuurKaffee has opted for a nomadic existence and, together with a guest curator, assembles twice a year a multidisciplinary programme of events at various locations dotted around the city of Brussels. Autumn 2015 sees author Saskia De Coster welcoming her festival guests at Bozar.
