Back to The Future
During a unique evening at Bozar, the worlds of symphonic and electronic music meet in a surprising way. Following Prokofiev's rarely performed Sixth Symphony, Gabriel Prokofiev, the composer’s grandson, and Soul Ableta will show how the Russian master lives on today.
The Sixth symphony came into being just after World War II. Initially one of Prokofiev's greatest successes, the piece was soon condemned and banned by the Soviet regime. Following the performance, you are immersed in unusual electronic sounds and are invited to move freely between two simultaneous concerts in Bozar's halls. Gabriel Prokofiev presents a daring combination of strings and electronics in hall M. While Olivier Verset, better known as DJ Soul Ableta, builds on the music of Sergei Prokofiev: he mixes vinyl records with recordings of Prokofiev's work, whilst a pianist and double bassist respond live to Verset's inventive sound manipulations and loops. The performance, that is halfway between a DJ set and a jazz improvisation, takes place in the Studio.
With one ticket, you can enjoy three concerts and embark on a journey through a variety of styles with Prokofiev as a common thread.
