Queen Elisabeth Competition | Cello 2026

2025-2026

The Queen Elisabeth Competition is recognised as one of the most prestigious and demanding music competitions in the world. For young violinists, pianists, singers and cellists aspiring to an international career, it serves as a true springboard. Remaining faithful to the project initiated by Eugène Ysaÿe and Queen Elisabeth, the Queen Elisabeth Competition continues to seek out complete musicians. What makes the Competition unique? A world-renowned jury, rigorous rules, unparalleled media coverage, and the warm enthusiasm of the Belgian public and the Royal Family.

After an exceptional and fully sold-out 2025 Piano edition, the cello will be celebrated in 2026. At Bozar, we propose:
-    the six final evenings: each night from Monday 25 to Saturday 30 May, two of the twelve finalists will perform with the Belgian National Orchestra, conducted by Antony Hermus.
-    the laureates’ concert: on Monday 8 June, the public will have the opportunity to (re)discover the 4th, 5th and 6th laureates with the Antwerp Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Shiyeon Sun;
-    the closing concert: on Wednesday 10 June, the first three laureates will close the Cello Competition with the Brussels Philharmonic, under the baton of Samy Rachid.

Come and cheer on the new generation of young cellists at Bozar for this third cello edition and share with us the energy and emotion of this unique musical journey!
In 2026, we will proudly mark the 75th anniversary of the Queen Elisabeth Competition, as well as the 150th anniversary of the birthday of Queen Elisabeth and Pablo Casals. These milestones will be celebrated with fitting tributes - details to be announced soon.
