Queen of Hearts - May El-Toukhy

As part of Meet the Artist: Trine Dyrholm, Bozar presents a special screening of Queen of Hearts by May El-Toukhy, winner of the Audience Award at Sundance 2019. Trine Dyrholm delivers a powerful performance as Anne, a seemingly fulfilled woman whose world begins to unravel when her teenage stepson unexpectedly moves in. Repressed desires, family tensions and forbidden passion collide in this unsettling yet gripping drama.

Danish director May El-Toukhy, trained in theatre, radio and at the National Film School of Denmark, is also a co-founder of Dogma 25 — a contemporary take on the Dogma 95 manifesto, which Bozar celebrates this year. Queen of Hearts marks her second collaboration with Trine Dyrholm and firmly establishes her as one of the most distinctive voices in contemporary Scandinavian cinema.
