Railway Men - Erige Sehiri

To open this close‑up, Tunisian filmmaker Erige Sehiri is invited to discuss her filmmaking practice, her artistic trajectory, her choices in storytelling, and the characters she seeks to bring to the forefront. The screening of her first documentary feature Railway Men (2018) will follow the conversation.
Tunisian railway workers assigned to line no. 1 call it The Normal Way, as it is the only track built according to international standards. Ironically, it is also the most neglected and deteriorated line in the network. Accidents are frequent, putting the lives of passengers and employees at risk. At the controls of the locomotives, Ahmed, Afef, Issam, Abee and Najib are both actors and witnesses of the difficult transformation process of the Tunisian railways, and, by extension, of Tunisian post‑revolutionary society as a whole.
