SMILE !

At Bozar, she has already performed alongside Pygmalion, the La Monnaie Symphony Orchestra and the Bavarian State Orchestra, but never have we seen Sabine Devieilhe quite like this before. For SMILE, the French soprano transforms the stage into a 1920s cabaret café and, through a blend of chansons, musical numbers and art songs, strikes a balance between ‘serious’ music and entertainment. Eric Satie and Francis Poulenc also dared to explore that same boundary in their compositions. Following her outstanding interpretations of Mozart, Devieilhe now surprises with a tribute to Josephine Baker, Stephen Sondheim and even Édith Piaf. Cellist Pauline Buet and pianist David Violi accompany her in this uplifting soirée, directed under the watchful eye of opera director Laurent Pelly
