‘Sica - Carla Subirana’

- 21:00

In the presence of the director.

Sica, fourteen year old, is obsessed that the sea will return her father’s body after a shipwreck on the Costa da Morte in Galicia. While she walks the cliffs she meets a boy, Suso, who is waiting for the arrival of Ofelia, the mother of all storms. Sica investigates the circumstances that led to her father’s death and sets out on a painful journey of discovery. For her, the fishing town where she has grown up will never be the same again.

The cinema of Carla Subirana rides the line between documentary and fiction, as shows her debut Nadar (2008). She is a founding partner of the association ‘Dones Visuals’ which aims parity in the film industry. She also designed a programme for women filmmakers, accompanying features and documentary films from script to direction and production. Sica, her first feature movie, premiered at the Berlinale.

The conversation with the director will be moderated by Mariana Cadenas Sangronis. Mariana, a visual storyteller with a ‘Doc Nomads’ master's degree from LUCA School of Arts, is currently working on an animated series about migration and a VR documentary experience.
