As part of Sofa Session #4, Bozar invites Neo Muyanga and Dushime to engage in a discussion inspired by the exhibition When We See Us and to explore the theme of Spirituality in connection with Music and their practices. In the spirituality section we get to understand how everyday black life without spirituality is hardly conceivable.
Diving deeper into the exhibition, brings the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of South African composer and sound artist, Neo Muyanga who orchestrated the sound design across each of the six themes: The Everyday, Joy and Revelry, Repose, Sensuality, Spirituality, and Triumph and Emancipation. Listen and experience, as we unpack Black joy, symphony and community through music.
This event is dedicated to the loving memory of Koyo Kouoh, curator of When We See Us exhibition, director of Zeitz MOCAA, who recently passed away.
Programme
With your Sofa Session ticket, you can visit the exhibition at your own pace from 6.30pm to 7.30pm. Felicia Olusanya aka FeliSpeaks will propose a poetry performance in the exhibition.
Join an inspiring conversation between Neo Muyanga, a musician whose harmonies touch both hearts and minds and Dushime, a Belgian-Rwandan singer, storyteller, and performer who sees the art of performance and music as a healing process in which you can achieve your purest form. Together, they’ll explore how music connects, shapes experiences, and opens doors to deeper spirituality.
