Into the Mind

With Into the Mind, Sophie Whettnall presents a 17-metre-long wall drawing in the Centre for Fine Arts' exhibition rooms. She transforms the monumental exhibition wall into a (mental) landscape by carving lines in wet clay during a whole day; a time-consuming and labour-intensive process. Drawing becomes a performative act, a repetitive choreography in which the artist channels physical energy through a metal pen and exposes the vulnerability of the material.

At the same time, Into the Mind is a meditative process, with the lines acting as a seismograph of the mind. In this work, Whettnall connects body and mind and blends key motifs from her oeuvre: landscape painting, the graphic line, physical exertion, drawn-out experiences of time and tempered beauty.

Sophie Whettnall (1973°) lives and works in Brussels.

This exhibition takes place as part of the Art & Well-being project, supported by Creative Europe.
