Sufi Night: Meyan Ensemble - Ensemble Safa

The Moroccan Ensemble Safa will transform our concert hall into a hotbed of ecstatic music. Sufi music to be precise, which is performed by adherents of Sufism, a mystical branch of Islam, as a means of getting closer to God. With their mesmerizing chants, the fifteen singers transport themselves and the listener into an extraordinary trance. All performed a cappella!

This sema, a mystical Sufi ritual in which dervishes seek union with God through whirling, provides the perfect conclusion to Sufi Night. Following an opening prayer, spiritual hymns and ney improvisations, the whirling dervishes take to the stage. They spin ever faster around their own axis, sinking ever deeper into a trance. Heart of Anatolia brings together the voices and traditions of Sufis and spiritual masters who have shaped Anatolia’s (present-day Turkey) cultural and spiritual landscape over the centuries. Inspired by the legacy of great spiritual masters such as Mevlânâ Celaleddin Rumi, Yunus Emre and Aziz Mahmud Hüdâî, the Meyan Ensemble, led by Fatih İnce, brings their teachings and music to life.
