Ensemble Safa
The Moroccan Ensemble Safa will transform our concert hall into a hotbed of ecstatic music. Sufi music to be precise, which is performed by adherents of Sufism – a mystical branch of Islam – as a means of getting closer to God. With their mesmerizing chants, the fifteen singers transport themselves and the listener into an extraordinary trance. All performed a cappella!
Sanam Marvi
Enchanting Pakistani singer Sanam Marvi also admires the timelessness of Sufi compositions. “Our lives have become so fast-paced that people feel an emptiness within and are in the quest for inner peace. Sufi music is soothing and there is much solace to be found in the meaningful lyrics,” she explains. Singing in three languages (Urdu, Sindhi and Seraiki), she explores themes of connection and hope. After a childhood marked by poverty, she found spiritual richness in music. Accompanied by a small ensemble, she holds her audiences in complete silence.
