‘TALK “SOMETHING WE AFRICANS GOT”’

28 June'19
- 18:30

LAUNCH OF SWAG #8: From Classical Arts to Contemporary Creation: Dynamism Of The Congo

From classical arts to contemporary creation: dynamism of the Congo.

On the occasion of this talk, issue #8 of the magazine “Something We Africans Got” (SWAG) will be launched. The journal tells us about artists from Africa and its diaspora, as well as non-African stakeholders whose work is related to the continent. All kinds of artistic expressions are addressed: photography, contemporary art, fashion, etc. The topics of issue 8 include architecture, Congo and cultural links with Switzerland.
SWAG #8 includes an interview with collector Sindika Dokolo on the exhibition “IncarNations” hosted by BOZAR which he co-curated with Kendell Geers. The issue also offers conversations with Congolese artists, especially a talk between photographer Sammy Baloji and renowned Belgian curator and art historian Chris Dercon, President of RMN-Grand Palais in Paris.

Anna-Alix Koffi, founder and director of SWAG, will present this eighth issue and engage in an in-depth discussion with Didier Claes, gallery owner and expert in classical African art, and Georges Senga, an artist based in Lubumbashi. A unique conversation between two great collectors and curators, Sindika Dokolo and Chris Dercon, will follow.

The discussions will be moderated by Ayoko Mensah (programmer, BOZAR Africa Desk).

Upon presentation of your ticket for the talk Something We Africans Got, you will receive a 50% discount on your ticket for the exhibition IncarNations. Discount valid until the 6th of October 2019.
