- 19:00

A+ Architecture in Belgium and Bozar welcome Bas Smets and Amin Taha (Groupwork) for a thematic lecture on the use of natural stone.

Bas Smets founded his office in Brussels in 2007. He sees the city as an urban ecological environment that requires a specific approach. The bureau has undertaken projects worldwide, including the Tour & Taxis park in Brussels. Last year, Bureau Bas Smets won the competition to redesign the surroundings of the Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. He will discuss the use of stone in his urban planning and landscape projects.

Groupwork is an English collective of architects, designers and engineers founded in 2003 by Amin Taha. Among their innovative projects is 15 Clerkenwell Close in London. This much-discussed project, featuring an exoskeleton of exposed limestone, was completed in 2017 and earned the firm a nomination for the 2019 EU Mies Award. During the lecture, Amin Taha will give more insight into the project and the use of natural stone in the facade.
