‘Their Algeria - Lina Soualem’

20 Nov.'22
- 20:00

Past and Present of Arab Societies through Women’s Lenses

After 62 years of marriage, Lina's grandparents, Aïcha and Mabrouk, separate. They came from Algeria to France 60 years ago. Side by side, they experienced a chaotic immigrant life. Their separation is an opportunity to question their journey of exile.

Lina Soualem is a French-Palestinian-Algerian filmmaker and actress. After studying History and Political Science at La Sorbonne University, she started working in journalism and as a programmer in film festivals. Lina played roles in three feature films directed by Hafsia Herzi, Hiam Abbass and Rayhana. Lina’s debut feature documentary Their Algeria (2019), presented at Visions du Réel, received the Best Doc-in-progress award at the Doc Corner in Cannes Film Festival. She is currently developing her second feature documentary.

The screening is followed by an Q&A (in French) online with director Lina Soualem, moderated by Karima Saïdi.
