And the winner is… Tomasz Ritter! This 23 year old pianist from Poland has won the very first International Chopin Competition on Period Instruments that took place in Warsaw between 2 and 14 September 2018. With the introduction of this competition the Fryderyk Chopin National Institute wants to revive the sound of pianos dating back to the nineteenth century; something which is largely lost on contemporary instruments. Of the thirty pianists from nine countries, Ritter’s interpretation of Chopin’s Piano Concerto in F minor was the one that really captured the jury’s imagination. During this lunchtime concert Tomasz Ritter pays homage to the great Polish master of the Romantic era with an outstanding Chopin programme full of polonaises, mazurkas, nocturnes, etudes and ballads.
Polonaise in g minor, op. posth.
2 Polonaises, op. 26
4 Mazurkas, op. 33
Nocturne, op. 48/1
Etude no. 5, op. 25
Ballade no. 4, op. 52
