In the presence of the director

In the presence of Arthur Gillet (director)

As a child, Arthur was fascinated by his grandparents’ idyllic love story: a beautiful Congolese lady married to a Belgian colonist. But not long after his grandmother’s death, the young director discovered family archives which shook up his childhood memories.

Arthur Gillet (1987) lives and works in Brussels. After attending theatre academy classes as a teenager, it was when studying at the Cours Florent in Paris that Arthur Gillet was first introduced to the cinema. It was the director Juan Pittaluga who introduced him to the art of film editing and directing. He then spent two years at the Institut des Arts de Diffusion (IAD), where his interests turned to documentary film. He was also involved in theatre as a playwright and director (first work in 2009: Les Illusions Modernes). He then embarked on studies at the Institut des Hautes Etudes des Communications Sociales in Brussels, graduating in 2012. The same year he directed and produced a short fiction film, Le radis. He came to the RTBF when still very young, working as a freelance director at the cultural programmes unit and information department, which he continues to do to this day. Un amour rêvé is his first full-length film.
