Anyone perusing Vijay Iyer’s CV should set aside some time to read it in full: producer, writer, bandleader, professor, composer and pianist. His numerous collaborations with the likes of Arooj Aftab, Craig Taborn and Steve Coleman are all the confirmation you need: Vijay Iyer is a musician’s musician. DownBeat has already voted him Jazz Artist of the Year four times, in part thanks to his ECM albums in various line-ups. The American artist rarely crosses the Atlantic, but will make a special visit to Bozar this autumn, performing a solo piano concert in Hall M. Building on the legacy of Duke Ellington, Thelonious Monk, Alice Coltrane and Geri Allen, Iyer has developed his own musical language, one that straddles tradition and the avant-garde. As Rolling Stone noted: “Iyer’s music knows no bounds.”
