VR FILM SCREENING : Black Experience

Join us for the May edition of VR Film Screening, Bozar’s monthly event dedicated to immersive storytelling. This edition, Black Experience, brings together two VR works that explore Black identity, history, and the lived realities of anti-Black racism. 

Travelling While Black, directed by Academy Award winner Roger Ross Williams, takes you inside Ben’s Chili Bowl, a historic restaurant and community landmark in Washington, D.C. Through intimate conversations with Black visitors, including people who experienced segregation, the film reflects on restricted movement, racism, and the importance of safe spaces where stories and memories can be shared. 

Coded Black by Maisha Wester takes you on an immersive journey through the history and legacy of anti-Blackness in the US and UK. Moving from 19th-century plantations to 20th-century city streets, the experience reveals the origins and consequences of racial ideologies while highlighting Black humanity, resilience, and resistance. The work contains historically sourced depictions of racial violence and offers an intense but necessary reflection on the lasting impact of racism.
