Immersive stories of women in the Arab world
As part of the Halaqat framework, this March edition of VR Film Screening invites you to engage with stories of resilience, identity, and agency from the Arab world and beyond. Through immersive VR and hybrid experiences, these works explore how communities and women navigate social, cultural, and political challenges.
Another Dream by Tamara Shogaolu is a hybrid animated documentary VR that brings to life the true love story of an Egyptian lesbian couple. Facing post-revolution backlash against the LGBTQ community, they escape Cairo to seek asylum and acceptance in the Netherlands. Another Dream is the second instalment of Queer In A Time Of Forced Migration, an animated transmedia series that follows the stories of LGBTQ refugees from Egypt, Sudan, and Saudi Arabia, and from the 2011 revolutions in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Then, experience C.A.P.E. Molenbeek – Alles op tafel, a VR project that invites audiences into the lives of the “Women of Molenbeek,” members of the theatre association Agora M – Vaartkapoen. Written collaboratively by Moroccan-Belgian women, the work addresses personal and cultural taboos, as well as prejudices, and was directed by Chantalla Pleiter of CREW. The project immerses participants in the everyday life of Molenbeek, guiding them through local spaces and rituals, and offers an intimate view on community, diversity, and agency.
VR Film Screening at Bozar is designed to be welcoming and accessible. Attentive guides will be on hand to ensure you have a seamless experience.
