Chimes of Freedom
Senegalese legend Youssou N’Dour and Beninese icon Angélique Kidjo have been among the most influential voices of their continent for more than four decades. They also share the same starting point: music as a tool for connection and engagement. The living legends have occasionally shared the stage for a song or two, but with Chimes of Freedom they present a full program together for the first time. “Side by side, we bring the songs that mean the most to us and our audience,” says N’Dour. From his beloved home country Senegal, Youssou N’Dour has built an impressive international career rooted in the energetic Senegalese music genre mbalax, but which continuously blends with influences from all over the world. Five-time Grammy winner Angélique Kidjo is known for her powerful voice and adventurous collaborations. In addition to West African influences, Kidjo moves effortlessly between various genres. She has just released her nineteenth studio album HOPE!!. Her engagement goes beyond the message she brings on stage; through her Batonga foundation, she helps vulnerable teenage girls in Africa grow into independent women.
