Bozar mourns the unexpected death of Koyo Kouoh

It is with deep sadness that Bozar has learned of the death of Koyo Kouoh, the internationally renowned Swiss-Cameroonian curator. Zeitz MOCAA, the largest museum devoted to contemporary art from Africa, which Koyo Kouoh directed, announced on Saturday 10 May that she had died at the age of 58.

"While she was blazing like a comet across the firmament, curator and museum director Koyo Kouoh’s light suddenly went out. Like so many of her friends and colleagues, we are in shock at the unexpected disappearance of this brilliant, awe-inspiring woman, always so full of ideas, boundless energy and irrepressible joy. The waves of celebration that went around the international art world at the news of her nomination to direct the next Venice Biennale are now being followed by shockwaves of grief at her loss. At Bozar, where we are proud to present her groundbreaking exhibition When We See Us, we mourn the passing of this unique voice and contagious smile."
