Anne Hytta Hardanger violin
The Hardanger fiddle is typically Norwegian and in addition to the traditional strings has four or five understrings which resound out of sympathy. Anne Hytta will be treating you to a preview of her compositions as she revives the refinement of this music from the fjords, inspired by early modal melodies and contemporary soundscapes. An accomplished musician, she performs in solo, with her trio Slagr or, as in her most recent album, with Tokso. In addition to the cello, this quartet brings together traditional instruments, like the Swedish nyckelharpa or the Cretan lyra (two types of Medieval Vielle), which complement the fiddle perfectly. This combination of tones produces a sublimated harmony, the depth of which won’t fail to move you.
