‘1st Laureate Queen Elisabeth Competition 2022 - Cello’

In 2022, Korean Hayoung Choi won first prize of the second edition of the Queen Elisabeth Cello Competition. The young musician distinguished herself with her expressive playing, culminating in the final with a daring choice: Lutosławski's Cello Concerto. Tradition dictates that the winner of the competition returns to the Bozar stage - the place of the consecration - for a flamboyant and moving recital. Accompanied by the excellent young Norwegian pianist Joachim Carr, Hayoung Choi offers a programme for cello and piano that is 100% 20th century, from Rachmaninov to Lutosławski, and Stravinsky, Scelsi and Britten - whose Sonata Op. 65 she magnified in the semi-final.
