HOW FILMMAKERS ARE BUILDING NEW REPRESENTATIONS OF AFRICA AND ITS DIASPORAS

Film has always been a powerful vehicle of representation and of the imagination. As such, it is an eminently political art and industry. Over the past decade, a dynamic African and Afropolitan cinema production has been building new narratives on Africa and its diasporas.  Is it true to speak of a cultural movement? What are the issues raised and impact of these new films? With Jean-Pierre Bekolo (filmmaker), Rama Thiaw (filmmaker), Pitcho Womba Konga (rapper, actor and filmmaker) and Serge Noukoue (director of Nollywood Week in Paris).

The short film by Pitcho Womba Konga entitled “Les sexes faibles” [The weak sexes] will be screened during the debate that will be hosted by Ayoko Mensah.
