Amasque

Spontaneity is at the heart of Amaconsort's musical practice. The music of the 17th and 18th centuries, approached from primary sources, reveals its infinite splendour under the touch of these musicians trained at the Schola Cantorum in Basel. The ensemble not only offers a fresh look at the familiar repertoire, it also wants to share some of the well-kept secrets of musical history. The Amaconsort ensemble, which is composed of musicians who have won individual awards at international competitions, was awarded first prize at the International Van Wassenaer Competition 2021 and the Bavarian Radio Special Prize at the renowned Deutscher Musikwettbewerb in 2019. For this concert, entitled "Amasque", the young ensemble was inspired by the music of 17th-century English Jacobean theatre, including the courtly performance forms known as "masks" and "antimasks".
