Echoes Across the Atlantic

Our portrait artist Jeanine De Bique is bringing the Grammy winners Apollo’s Fire across the Atlantic to Bozar. The Trinidadian soprano and the American baroque ensemble led by Jeannette Sorrell explore the historical bonds between Europe and the Caribbean colonies in the 18th century. Stories of love, despair and resilience emerge on both sides of the ocean. An exciting aria from Handel’s Alcina portrays the legendary European sorceress, which leads to a folk tale about the Caribbean sorceress known as La Diablesse. In the rest of the programme, PurcellVivaldi and Rameau meet their poetic colleagues from the Caribbean, with whom they share a universal humanity.
