Opening Brussels Art Film Festival (BAFF)

In the presence of Apolonia Sokol.

In 2009, Danish student Léa Glob was asked to produce a documentary portrait as part of her studies. When she met Apolonia Sokol, a charismatic young painter, the fascination was immediate and her subject was an obvious choice. Under the spell of this eccentric yet vulnerable character, the filmmaker became glued to her camera for 13 years. Thirteen years in the life of a woman, from the age of eighteen to thirty-one, in search of freedom and recognition in the ruthless world of contemporary art between Paris and Los Angeles.

A 2011 graduate of Denmark's National Film School, Lea Glob won the Nordic Dox Award for Olmo and the Seagull, directed with Petra Costa. She then co-directed Venus (2016) with Mette Carla Albrechtsen, a film selected at the IDFA in Amsterdam. Apolonia, Apolonia is her first solo feature. It won the Best Film Award at the IDFA in 2022.
