Strauss Also Sprach Zarathustra / Fafchamps Symphony 1

This concert is centred around the first performance of the First Symphony by the Brussels pianist and composer Jean-Luc Fafchamps, commissioned by the Belgian National Orchestra. Ombres Célestes draws inspiration from astrophysics, such as black holes, galaxies, and the interstellar void. The Hollywood film industry also regularly draws inspiration from the universe. Brand-new Chief Conductor Antony Hermus will conduct music from two iconic science fiction films; Jerry Goldsmith’s score for Planet of the Apes and John Williams’ score for Close Encounters of the Third Kind. These extraterrestrial adventures will be complemented by a composition that became world famous when Stanley Kubrick used it as the soundtrack for his film 2001: A Space Odyssey: Also sprach Zarathustra by Richard Strauss.
