Billy Childs' Saxophone Concerto

What does it mean to feel at home when you leave? And what do you carry with you when you arrive? In Diaspora, Billy Childs creates a deeply evocative concerto in which the saxophone speaks as a travelling voice. Jazz, classical writing and personal history merge into music that moves between roots and open horizons. Steven Banks gives this voice warmth, nostalgia and a strong sense of individual presence. In response, Antonín Dvořák’s Ninth Symphony, ""From the New World"", emerges in a new light. Far from a folkloric postcard, the work is infused with longing, wonder and inner tension. Listening closely to both unfamiliar sounds and distant memories, Dvořák shaped a symphony that remains constantly in motion, anchored, yet always searching. An evening devoted to identity, displacement and the act of listening beyond borders.
