The emphasis in this season's string quartet series is very much on youth. The Bennewitz Quartet is yet another fine young Czech quartet, which has won first prizes at competitions as prestigious as the Premio Paolo Borciani (2008). The tradition of the string quartet is very much alive - and flourishing - in their homeland. Their programme here will range from the 18th century, with Haydn, the "father" of the string quartet, to the 20th, with Schnittke, a Soviet composer with German roots, via the 19th, with music by Dvorak, the most famous of all Czech composers - a varied programme that offers an excellent opportunity to discover the many facets of this talented quartet. One to watch!
