Matthias Weckmann : the Germand Baroque Legacy Abendmusik I
In his day, and until the middle of the 18th century, Matthias Weckmann was seen as one of the organ greats. But nowadays, he doesn't get the recognition he deserves. Bernard Foccroulle sought to address this by publishing Weckmann's complete organ oeuvre in 2014 (Ricercar). His organ music harks back to the Dutchman Sweelinck, and is characterized by its huge variety of expression and effect, its mixture of sobriety and virtuosity and its extraordinary contrapuntal and emotional richness. Time, then, to give Weckmann the attention he deserves.
