Before the Henry Le Boeuf Hall closes its doors for the summer, this double bill makes the most of the iconic concert venue. Bl!ndman has carte blanche to select the line-up for a performance of Louis Andriessen’s Workers Union from 1975. The instruments for this piece are unspecified; only the rhythm is strictly notated. So why not saxophones? The work aims to preserve the individual within the collective for as long as possible. Afterwards, saxophonist Colin Stetson takes centre stage for a solo set. Bon Iver and Feist’s favourite wind musician never seems to run out of breath – not even on the bass clarinet. “Stetson manages to walk a line between percussive layering reminiscent of Steve Reich, meditative repetition akin to Philip Glass, and the lyricism of his friend and collaborator Laurie Anderson. Multi-textured and immersive, his work really is like nothing you've heard before,” writes The Guardian.
