Beyond Green Games is a disruptive and creative workshop, devised by artists Isabelle Arvers (FR) and Livia Diniz (BR), to raise environmental awareness through the creation of video games. By hijacking existing games and exploring animist and indigenous perspectives on climate issues, participants are invited to rethink their relationship with nature. The prototypes produced are based on a responsible approach to video games: less technology, more aesthetic diversity, and mechanics that encourage collaboration.
Beyond Green Games takes place in three stages:
- a one-hour walk in and around the Royal Park of Brussels, to record the sounds of trees, capture macro images of plants, make 360° videos and 3D scans of natural elements;
- a co-creation session of "machinimas" at Bozar: video games created on site, combining recordings of the augmented walk and existing independent games, which link nature to the sensations, emotions, and mechanics of video games;
- the design and prototyping of a new collective video game, inspired by the walk and ecological video games discovered, in which natural elements become protagonists, narrative themes, or characters.
The workshop runs from 10 am to 6 pm, with a lunch break (not provided).
Suitable for ages 12 and over.
Maximum 12 participants.
The electronic equipment is supplied by Bozar.
