‘Collegium 1704 & Václav Luks’

The year is 1706. Twenty-one-year-old George Frideric Handel took a trip to Italy to learn about Italian music. It is obvious that he studied the music of his predecessors, including Corelli and Monteverdi. It is the year later that he composed the Dixit Dominus. In this religious cantata, he manages to strike the perfect balance between jubilant choral music, moving solos and exhilarating instrumental interludes.  Less well known than Handel is probably the Bohemian composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. Even so, non other than his contemporary Johann Sebastian Bach was a huge fan of his work. Today the top Prague ensemble Collegium 1704 invites you to discover their own composer with his Missa Omnium Sanctorum.
