Lebenslicht, a movie on Bach

How can you combine modern iconography and Baroque music without losing something in the process? This is the challenge which Philippe Herreweghe has decided to take up by putting Clara Pons’ film, Lebenslicht, to music. The film tells the tale of three generations: a grandfather, his son and grandson. A family, with its problems of guilt, anger and resentment. A family like yours, through which the universal themes of Bach’s music, ranging from fear and death to forgiveness, consolation and joy, enter our daily lives. For this project, Philippe Herreweghe and his musicians treat us to a live performance involving a selection of choruses, arias and instrumental sinfonie from some of the Cantor’s most beautiful cantata, passions and masses.
