‘Czech Philharmonic & Semyon Bychkov’

21 Oct.'22
- 20:00

Two top orchestras from the Czech Republic in Belgium in the space of one month? That can only be done at Bozar. After the Prague Philharmonia, a month later we will welcome the Czech Philharmonic to mark the Czech Presidency of the Council of the European Union. At the centre of the event is Dmitri Shostakovich's Eleventh Symphony. In this four-part masterpiece, which he wrote to mark the 40th anniversary of the October Revolution in 1917, he takes you back to the revolution of 1905 when hundreds of workers were brutally slaughtered. An upbeat counterpoint can be found in Joseph Haydn's First Cello Concerto with Frenchman Gautier Capuçon, who was a guest last year along with Jean-Yves Thibaudet and Lisa Batiashvili, as the dream soloist.
